Infrared Radiant Heat is Green

What makes a heating product green? It is not the amount of gas burned and efficiently turned into heat energy within a forced air furnace or boiler. It is also not a label or rebate, public perception or the amount of money spent on the promotion and lobbying for any particular product. It is the low carbon footprint created by the energy spent to create occupant comfort within a given space. The efficient production of heat energy and it's uninhibited, effective delivery to the occupants of a desired structure. This is where Radiant Electric Heat CeramiCircuit™ infrared heating panels outperform many of our competitors.

CeramiCircuit heating systems involve supplying energy directly to panels on the wall or ceiling of the space to be heated. This systems efficiency rests largely on the 100% conversion of this energy to heat energy and resulting radiant heat transfer; the delivery of heat directly from the panel surface to the people and objects in the room via the radiation of heat, which is also called infrared radiation.

Radiant heating has a number of advantages but we will focus on three:

  1. It is more efficient than convective baseboard heating and forced air heating because no energy is lost through ducts or the inefficiency of air to transfer heat. Air is only 13% conductive of heat energy hence the need for inefficient ductwork and blower motors to deliver occupant comfort. In fact the Department of Energy states on their website that 40% or more of heat energy is lost in a standard forced air system. The lack of moving air can also be advantageous to people with allergies and/or chemical sensitivities.
  1. Our radiant panels have a much quicker response time than other types of green heating equipment, including many competing radiant systems.  This ability to rapidly achieve occupant comfort levels combined with the capacity to individually control each room, results in dramatic energy and cost savings when compared to other heating systems. Again referencing Department of Energy figures; for every degree your thermostat is set below 70° you save 3% on energy usage and cost.
  2. Original manufacturing, installation, service and replacement of equipment have a surprisingly negative impact on our environment. An interesting fact is that it takes over 13 years at 100% operational capacity to make up for the carbon footprint produced in the manufacturing and installation of one wind turbine. Once installed the need for service or replacement of CeramiCircuit™ heaters is minimal. We have panels that have been operating in the field for over 60 years with no service or maintenance.
